Mount Home Directory on local PC

You can map your network home directory on your local PC, but you will need to connect to the UCL VPN first. Once you are connected to the VPN you can access your home directory using SMB/CIFS.

Windows

  • Open the File Explorer, right click on "This PC" and choose to "Map network drive...".
  • Choose a drive letter and enter the path as \\silo2-cifs-nfs-02-vl1.ee.ucl.ac.uk\userid (where you replace "userid" with your UCL userid. If you use an older legacy userid for accessing departmental IT resources you will need to use that userid).
  • Tick the option to "Connect using different credentials" and then click on "Finish".
  • You should be prompted to login. Make sure you login as "EE\userid" with your usual UCL Password

Mac

  • Click on "Go" >> "Connect to server"
  • Enter the server address as: smb://silo2-cifs-02-vl1.ee.ucl.ac.uk/userid (where you replace "userid" with your UCL userid. If you use an older legacy userid for accessing departmental IT resources you will need to use that userid).
  • Click on "Connect"
  • Login as "EE\userid" with your usual UCL password.
